okie's and arkie's

Sunday concluded a busy week of clipping and stripping. In what could have been Spokane's version of the dust bowl, tiller and I pruned back all the tomatoes heavily in hopes to make the plant ripen up quickly before the cold comes. Along with peppers, a few squash, and beets, the tomatoes are one of the last details we have to focus on. We have chutney's planned for any green ones that fall, but mostly I'd like to try every trick in the book to get all the ripe ones we can. Our peppers this year are great. Every day something new to try and add a little kick to your morning. The winners so far are the santa fe grande, a lovely yellow to red, medium heat salsa pepper. Another is the "goat's horn", which I fire roasted last night to much delight. These long, green and orange peppers really do look like horns and would also be great for stuffing. Rise Moon Set

The past two weeks have been busy. With Joe and Maggie going off for their schooling, I've had a great deal of alone time on the prairie. Reflecting upon what we've done and grown this summer, I'm left happy, and somewhat impressed with what we've accomplished. This season provides for me a footprint of what is left to learn and create. Each day truly is an opportunity to strive to be a better gardener, and a better person. new beginning pt. 15

This weekend marks my move to the prairie. Swift and steady with a breeze, it has called me. The twinge of Autumn in the air combined with the remaining sweet summer days take me back. It's almost like school is always in session this time of year, and lessons are ready to be learned. It'll be constant, and I will most likely need some leather gloves.. Hope to see y'all soon.
